A knowledge network

The main goal for the project is to increase the number of skilled professionals needed to perform resource and energy efficient renovations within the Botnia Atlantica region. The goal will be reached by establishing a Nordic Renovation Center, a knowledge network that share best practices and support regional stakeholders with information and education on how to perform sustainable renovations. In order to provide relevant information, the project will gather information on end user needs and renovation methods and increase the availability of flexible pedagogical tools.

End users need

The primary target groups for this goal are house owners, companies within the building sector and municipalities. Surveys will be carried out in Finland, Norway and Sweden to understand the perception, knowledge, needs and concerns of these stakeholders on energy efficient renovations. The information gathered from the survey of municipalities and companies will be used to develop pedagogical tools that may assist them to implement energy efficient renovations. The results from the house owners’ surveys could act as a feedback to companies and policy makers on energy efficient renovations and to take appropriate actions that could increase the adoption rate of such measures.

Used renovation methods

Successful renovation should result in a building with a healthy and comfortable indoor climate, safe moisture performance of structures, improved energy efficiency and resource efficiency in the form of recyclable materials and elements. The project intend to compare different Nordic methodical inventory methods to evaluate the renovation process. The inventory include energy efficiency measures, energy simulations and performance validation, suggestions of technical solutions and evaluation of the result, including indoor environmental quality (IEQ).

Sustainability

During the project, activities like networking, benchmarking, visiting stakeholders, and dis-semination of results and tools to municipalities and companies will spread the awareness of the Renovation Center and help making the center sustainable. To ensure the continuation of the Renovation Centre after the project, three types of organizational models will be explored.

Digital and mobile learning tools

The project intend to design and develop mobile and digital CC-licensed Open Educational

Resources (OER) to be distributed on a shared online learning space. Digital learning cases will be developed to increase the understanding of renovation processes. Mobile digital learning resources provides easy access, high‐qualitative, flexible and innovative ways to learn regardless of user’s

different time, location and learning stages. This will make it possible for stakeholders to access knowledge through mobile devices for planning as well as for right here and right now problems.

Sharing the result

The results of the project will be spread through several different channels and formats such as the project website, meetings and visits to stakeholders, conferences, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, project reports, articles in scientific and professional journals, e-books, podcasts, apps and social media. The project aims to find the right format and way to share information and results with all the included target groups.
